Name

What's in a name? According to some, a lot of information about your personality. Sooo... I decided to look up Billy's name and see what there was to see. Well, the site I went to had a zillion names, so I ended up looking at Billy, Billy-lee, and William, just to make sure one was halfway decent, even though there's really no evidence that Billy's given name is anything other than... well, Billy. Oh well, I'd rather go overboard than not do enough, right? Also, I've now included an analysis of the whole Black/Blanche thing. Read on!

Billy

Your name of Billy gives you a very responsible, stable nature. Your calmness of mind enables you to analyze objectively, and to make decisions quickly, making it possible for you to do well in business or in any professional capacity. Because of your serious, self-possessed nature you can appear domineering and forceful to others. You have a strong humanitarian nature and many times you are called upon to assist others with their problems. Your desire to help sometimes is not appreciated, however, because they feel you are interfering. You are fond of home and children and desire a settled environment. You have an appreciation for music and art, and could express along these lines. Mental tension could result through worrying too much over your problems or the problems of others, with an adverse effect on your nervous system.

Comments: I consider this to be the most accurate of the three analyses. The part about the "strong humanitarian nature" struck me as worth mentioning because of just how many times you see that in the game. Like the orphanage. Billy started it because he didn't want any more kids to go through the same thing as Primera and himself. Helping people was also the reason he originally became an Etone. Of course, once he found out what Etones actually did...

Billy-lee

Your first name of Billy-lee creates individuality, independence, self-confidence, initiative, and an inclination to physical activity. You are not inclined to merge your opinions and viewpoints with others, to accept compromise, or to work in a subservient position against your will. Your expression is invariably quite direct and candid, and lacks the moderating tone of tact, diplomacy, and friendliness. Others find it difficult to accept your domineering and, at times, argumentative manner. Your circle of friends is restricted to those of like nature. Once friendship is established, you are very loyal and steadfast and do not tolerate gossip or criticism. In your close associations and family life, there is little demonstration of sentiment, appreciation, sympathy, or encouragement. It is difficult for you to find the right words for such circumstances. Weaknesses in the health caused by this name center in the head.

Comments: I particularly paid attention to the statements about family life in this one. I'd say that pretty much sums it up for Billy: not much love going on in the Black household, although by the end of the game they're working on it. Billy also does tend to be argumentative when things don't go his way... sometimes resorting to childish insults. Of course, he always keeps that holier-than-thou manner when he uses them, so I guess they're holier-than-thou childish insults?

William

The name of William gives you a very individual, reserved, serious nature. You stick stubbornly to your ideas or decisions, in spite of any appeals or advice; you are not willing to accept a compromise. You prefer to be alone with your own thoughts, rather than in the company of others. This name restricts spontaneity in association and the fluency of your verbal expression. When you are required to express yourself in personal matters requiring finesse and diplomacy, you feel awkward and embarrassed. Although you realize perfectly well what is expected of you, you are unable to find the right words, and hence you end up saying something inappropriate in a candid way. You can express your deeper thoughts and feelings best through writing. Your friendships and personal associations are rather restricted, being limited to those of a similar nature who can understand and accept your rather straightforward yet reserved manner. You are steadfast and loyal, and do not allow gossip or anything belittling to be said against those whom you accept in friendship. You find satisfaction in being outdoors or in getting out into nature, or in dealing with the products of the earth. There is originality and depth of thought contained in this name, particularly along practical and mathematical lines. This name can adversely affect the health of your respiratory organs, the heart and lungs. Also, you are prone to suffer from weaknesses centering in the head.

Comments: Well, this one says basically the same thing as the previous one, with a few exceptions. I guess I'll just comment on something that they all say here, which is that "you stick stubbornly to your ideas or decisions, in spite of any appeals or advice; you are not willing to accept a compromise." Personally, I agree and at the same time disagree. One thing at a time though. First of all, some of you reading this may be thinking that it is totally untrue. If Billy could so easily be manipulated into becoming Stein's puppet and tool for revenge, he couldn't possibly have such a strong will, right? Not necessarily. In fact, you could say that it was his strong convictions that got him into that situation in the first place. After witnessing his mother's death and feeling like his father had abandoned him, Billy became determined that no one else would suffer like he did. That's when "Bishop Stone" came in and convinced Billy that there was no better way to help people than to become an Etone and rid the world of the Wels. After that, Billy's mind was set, and he wouldn't listen to anyone, not even Jessie. He was an Etone and he was helping people. It took what I would consider a traumatic revelation (how else to describe discovering the past 4 years of your life have been a sort of lie?) to change his mind. At the same time, he eventually DID change his mind, and forgave his father, which was more than a compromise, in my opinion. Also, have you noticed how 2 of the 3 said illnesses are likely to center in the head? That's interesting, considering how much Stein messed with Billy's mind, don't you think?

Black and White

I finally decided that Billy's last names should be mentioned here, as they do serve some sort of significance. Namely, the word "blanche" means "white" in French. Therefore, there must be some significance in going from white to black, right? Of course! ;3 In my opinion, I think this signifies a change not only in the location of the family, but in the central core of the family itself. At the time the Blanche family became the Blacks, Jessie left to become a spy for Shevat, and it was all downhill from there. White is generally thought of a a "good," "holy" color (i.e. the family lived in Solaris, Jessie was an Element and well-respected, everything was hunky-dory, etc.), while black is the "bad" color (soon after the family changed their name, Jessie left for good, Racquel was killed, Stone began his plan for revenge, and basically Billy's life was screwed up).
